I am an example of a person who wants to become a breeder of Thoroughbred horses. So, I decided to start studying about the industry so that when I have the money I am prepared to begin immediately.
I recommend you to read books. Here are some suggestions:
1) The Blood Horse Authoritative Guide to Breeding Thoroughbreds
2) Investing in Thoroughbreds
3) Conformation and Performance
4) Thoroughbred Owners Handbook
Another way of studying is by analyzing sales catalogs and searching for what mare would you or would you not buy and why. Also check results of sales to see the variety of prices and why are some mares more expensive than others.
These are just some tips to study before being a breeder. There is no bigger happiness than seeing a horse that was born in your farm win a race or achieve a high price at an auction.
